Longsheng Travel Guide

Longsheng Travel GuideLongsheng County in northeastern Guangxi province is the oldest established county in southern China. Longsheng Town is situated in a densely forested area of over 2400 square kilometers and has a population of 160,000 people. It is surrounded by mountains on four sides and lies 100 kilometers north of Guilin, in the area where the Heping and Sang Rivers meet. Built on the mountain slopes, the town boasts rows of tall buildings separated by banyan trees.

Close to Longsheng town are the Hot Springs National Park and the Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces: 60 square kilometers of terraced rice fields southeast of Longsheng. The construction was begun in the Yuan dynasty and completed in the Qing dynasty by the Zhuang people. The terraced fields are built along the slope of the mountain winding from the riverside up to the mountaintop, from an elevation of 380 m to 885 m. The coiling line, spiraling up the mountain, looks like a huge snail when seen from a distance.
